About
Big Steps, Small Shoes is a space for the quiet, complicated, and often unspoken moments of early childhood.
It began with a simple observation: some of the most meaningful parts of parenting don’t make it into checklists, milestones, or daily reports. They happen in the in-between — at the daycare gate, during bedtime negotiations, in small rituals that build trust over time.
This blog brings together real stories from early childhood settings and the perspective of someone who has spent years working closely with young children and their families. It is grounded in experience, shaped by observation, and written with the intention to make parents feel less alone in what they’re navigating.
You’ll find reflections on:
- daycare transitions and separation
- sleep and routines
- behaviour that feels confusing or contradictory
- everyday moments that carry more meaning than they first appear
This is not a space for perfect parenting.
It is a space for understanding what is actually happening — and why it matters.
A note on anonymity
This blog is written by an early childhood educator who has chosen to remain anonymous for now, to keep the focus on the stories and the ideas rather than the individual behind them.
If this resonates
If something here feels familiar, that is intentional.
Parenting, especially in the early years, is rarely straightforward. But it is deeply shared.
And often, the small things are the big things.
